2025 at a Glance
In a year of advocacy and renewal one of the standout moments in 2025 was our joint event with Palliative Care Australia at Parliament House, hosted by the Parliamentary Friends of Palliative Care. The strong turnout included Health Minister Mark Butler among several politicians and health stakeholders.
The event focused on the need for improved pain management at end of life with a panel including health professionals and consumers speaking about their experiences and challenges in accessing pain management for palliative care.
Another highlight was our participation in the “Hidden Health Baggage” campaign at Sydney Harbour alongside comedian Julia Morris, and the release of our consumer report Shingles: It’s not just a rash. The report, based on insights from more than 100 Australians, details the devastating toll shingles and the resulting pain takes on individuals and their families.
Painaustralia was also honoured to be a finalist in this year’s Health Industry Awards for our podcast The Pain Game: Who’s really calling the shots in the new era of pain management?
Our Consumer Advisory Group has also continued to play an invaluable role throughout the year. Their lived experience has shaped our work, including the new Safe Storage and Use of Medications Guide to be launched early next year and our members have been involved in helping to develop a communication tool for consumers to be able to describe their pain and how it actually impacts their daily lives to their health professional to get the best treatment and support they can.
