Painaustralia and Palliative Care
November 2025
Painaustralia joined Palliative Care Australia for an event at Parliament House on 3 November 2025.
Hosted by the Parliamentary Friends of Palliative Care, the event brought together policymakers, clinicians, parliamentarians, and advocates who want to advance compassionate, evidence-based care for all Australians.
Painaustralia showcased the My Pain assessment Communication Tool (MPaCT) which is being developed by patients for patients, and Palliative Care Australia’s Strategic Plan 2026–2029 was launched at the event, highlighting national efforts to improve the experience of people living with pain and those receiving palliative care.
Our Chair Simon Corbell facilitated a panel that examined the barriers and challenges for those nearing the end of live to access the pain care they deserve and an 11-point plan to resolve medicine shortages devised by Palliative Care Australia, Painaustralia and five other peak organisations was highlighted.
Our CEO, Monika Boogs, spoke at the event, highlight how effective pain management is fundamental to maintaining dignity and quality of life for people receiving palliative care.
“Pain can be incredibly difficult to describe or measure, especially for people in palliative care, older Australians, people who are non-verbal or anyone whose voice may not always be heard.
Recognising and responding to pain with empathy and evidence-based care is one of the most powerful things we can do to improve quality of life,” she said.

Last week Painaustralia gathered together with consumers, politicians, and members of the pain sector on the lawns of the Australian Parliament House in Canberra to ask for better multidisciplinary care so that all people in chronic pain can access the allied health and treatment services they need.
At our event, we asked the Federal Government to provide funding to increase the number of allied health visits to 10 per year.
We want to thank the many politicians who attended and spoke at our event, our sponsors, and most importantly the consumers who shared their stories on the day.
Painaustralia also held a showcase inside Parliament House attended by various politicians and health department officials to demonstrate how multidisciplinary care is carried out.
We want to thank all those who attended and supported us for helping make this such a successful day!
