SHPA Opioid Think Tank
Painaustralia recently attended the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA) opioid think tank, where the chief priority identified was consumer engagement, which was consistent with previous recommendations to ‘work with prescribers’ and ‘engage patients’.
Painaustralia CEO Carol Bennett took part in the virtual conference PAIN2020 to discuss chronic pain and opioid reforms in the era of Covid-19. Other conference speakers included Associate Professor Michael Vagg and Dr Jenny Stevens. Dr Marc Russo was the Conference Convenor.
Osteoporosis Australia’s Inaugural National Consumer and Community Forum
Last week Painaustralia attended Osteoporosis Australia’s consumer and community form, appearing on a panel to discuss the importance of engaging with the community and the importance of early intervention to prevent chronic conditions such as pain.
Asia-Pacific Patients Congress
Painaustralia has been selected to present regional experiences at the Asia-Pacific Patients Congress: Patient Leadership in Health Systems Strengthening, a virtual event that will be held from 3–4 December 2020. We will showcase a poster and video presentation to highlight the need for consumers with lived experience of chronic pain to be at the forefront of health policy development and implementation.
Painaustralia CEO Carol Bennett will also share a story at the Patient Shouting Café session, where consumer organisation representatives will share their stories of patient harm, denial of access, discrimination and other complaints or challenges faced when accessing healthcare.
