Painaustralia CEO Carol Bennett attended the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Women’s Health Summit 2021 at Parliament House in Canberra on Thursday 27 May 2021.
The theme of the 2021 Summit was Time to Act and was hosted by Painaustralia’s own pain champion and ABC medical reporter Sophie Scott. The event brought together a diverse group across industry, non-government organisations, community groups, and government to discuss and address pressing health challenges faced by Australian women.
Chronic pain was addressed on the day in a panel discussion which looked at the impact on women of chronic pain including all forms of pelvic pain, osteoporosis and endometriosis.
Chronic pain impacts on the daily lives of so many Australian women, who are often stigmatised and have their pain dismissed, with Painaustralia’s Cost of Pain report finding that of the 3.24 million Australians living with chronic pain in 2018, 1.74 million of them were women and 1.5 million men.
Our guest author in this edition is Katherine Stanley from Endo Help who also attended the summit and tells her story of her journey through chronic pain.
