ePPOC update
Painaustralia attended the ePPOC Adult Services Benchmarking Workshop held online last month alongside 110 other attendees. During the workshop a number of research papers were presented including a study analysing the impact of the reduction or stopping of opioids on patients who live with chronic pain.
The study called, Opioid cessation is associated with reduced pain and improved function in people attending specialist chronic pain services analysed ePPOC data from 10,302 patients from 67 pain clinics.
Almost half of the patients either ceased opioids or reduced their dose by at least 50 per cent during their treatment. It also found clinically significant improvement in assessment scores was greatest for those who had ceased their opioids.
